I can smell my wet laundry:

When you first use Molly’s Suds you may notice some smells are appearing that didn’t seem to be there before. Our pure Laundry Powder lifts out the build up from your previous detergent and fabric softeners including a dangerous toxin called Galaxolide. It is a synthetic musk added to detergents and fools you into thinking your perfume, underarm odor and sweat stink is gone! It is simply covered up, it’s not right and so we do not try to trick our customers by adding in these toxic cover ups. To get rid of this stink and build up use 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar in your wash the first several loads, allow it to soak for an hour or so. The vinegar will also help to remove the build up in your washing machine. If you have stinky armpits, get the armpit of the shirt damp and apply a drop or two of natural dish soap or our All Sport and rub it in, let it sit and toss in the washer and odors will be gone! Deodorant and antiperspirant (mostly petroleum based) is the cause of the build up, it traps the odors. Try switching to a coconut oil based deodorant like Primal Pit Paste.

Pre-treating stains is KEY to successful stain removing.

Rinse the stain with tepid water through the back of the stain. This pushes the protein out of the fabric instead of forcing it deep into the fibers! Add a drop of All Sport (or dish soap) and gently scrub by rubbing the fabric against itself. Rinse. Now add a sprinkle of baking soda and rub it in. Rinse. Now Repeat both steps. Done. It should be gone. If the stain sat too long before an intervention could be done, let the All Sport mixed with a little water sit on the stain until you are ready to do a load of laundry. They key is early intervention! Club soda works well instead of water for wine spills and hydrogen peroxide is great instead of water for red sauce-based stains.

Received hand-me-downs with old stains?

Hand-me-downs is a right of passage for most of us growing up. Sometimes they come with old grease-like spots or stains. The following steps will help to remove or at least make the stains unnoticeable! First you want to separate the colors from the lights. Let’s start with the colors. Find the stain and get it damp. Apply a drop of All Sport or natural dish soap and rub it in with a soft toothbrush. Rinse. Repeat and let it sit for a few minutes. Add a small amount of vinegar, about 1/2 teaspoon and toss it aside moving on to the next item of clothing. After you have a pile of clothes treated, toss them into the washer and add 1 scoop Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder and wash as you would.

For the light colored/ clothing and whites, you will do the same exact method, but when you toss them in the washer, add 1 cup hydrogen peroxide or non-chlorine bleach (same thing as hydrogen peroxide but sold in detergent section). Let it soak for an hour or 2 and then wash as normal.

Grass and red clay are the hardest to get out of fabric even if you do use a harsh detergent. We recommend rubbing natural dish soap into the fabric or All Sport, pouring enough vinegar on it to cover the stain and then letting that sit for at least an hour. When about an hour has past, put the clothing item into just enough warm water to cover it and add 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar. It’s a mild acid, restores and renews colors and helps remove stains and build up! Let it soak for another hour. Then add 1 scoop Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder and wash as you normally would.

Athletic clothes stink?

We formulated Molly’s Suds All Sport with enzymes and plant based fatty acids that are non-toxic but super effective at getting out the stink! The key is a small load, cool water (not icy, not warm) and at least a 30-minute soak. Let it agitate for a minute, stop the cycle and let it soak. if you have a high efficiency machine, set your machine to pre-soak or soak the items in a utility sink or tub first, then wash as usual in your machine. All Sport is Ah-maz-ing!! Stinky shoes, stinky pits, stinky clothes… All Sport!

Cloth Diapers

Cloth diaper stink is caused by: too much water in the cycle, too little water, too much detergent, too little detergent, soft water, hard water (usually the culprit), and/or not enough diapers in the wash, causing a lack of friction. So, let’s trouble shoot! It works best to do a hot rinse, a regular cycle wash with 2 scoops of Molly’s Suds Cloth Diaper Laundry Powder, and then a rinse with no powder. If you are still getting stink, run less water in your machine or add more diapers. They need friction. You can use 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar in the load; it helps with ammonia issues and build up if you are just switching to Molly’s Suds. Stripping diapers is a last resort. Most all issues are resolved after a few washes. It’s usually because the natural Molly’s Suds is pulling build up out of the diapers from the previous products used. Most of the brands for cloth diapers on the market today contain fillers or fragrance.

Can I add…

Baking soda, distilled white vinegar… you can add anything you’d like to or are already in the habit of doing in your laundry regimen. We recommend 1/4-1/2 distilled white vinegar with towels and sheets because it has antiviral, antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Never add bleach and vinegar in the same load – it’s a caustic and toxic hazard to human life.

How do I get Whites White?

Dingy whites after switching to Molly’s Suds means you were previously using a product that had optical whiteners in it, along with a list of other toxic ingredients. Mineral deposits in the fabric and in hard water cause dingy whites. Check out our new Oxygen Whitener which uses sodium per carbonate and other earth derived ingredients to aid in breaking down the hard water minerals and bring back your whites! Follow up by hanging clothes to dry in the sun, which naturally bleaches them; it really does work!

We hope these tips and tricks to remove stains and stink helps out! Congratulations on the Quest to healthier living and a chemical free home for you and your family! From our family to yours, thank you for choosing Molly’s Suds!
